Gillette, Wyo.--The Lady Camels were easily able to defeat the Laramie Lady Plainsmen on Friday night with a 65-42 victory.
Other than a small run by the Lady Plainsmen late in the first quarter to take a brief lead, Gillette was in the driver's seat throughout the contest.
Head Coach Mitch Holst mentioned in the pregame show that the Lady Camels needed to control Madison Legerski and Katie Kuhn, Laramie's two leading scorers. Gillette did half of that. The Lady Camels kept Legerski under her average and held Kuhn right at hers.
Laramie, known for passing around the perimeter for an extended period of time before taking shots on offense, didn't execute that style of play often. That benefited the Lady Camels as they kept a faster tempo than usual Laramie-Gillette games. Dani Williams and McCorra Ford led the way on the scoreboard, as both were way over their averages. In addition to Ford and Williams, the rest of the players for Gillette that got solid minutes in the game helped out with scoring and forcing turnovers on defense.
The Lady Camels did get into foul trouble early in the second half. They committed 7 fouls with over a minute left in the third quarter. Luckily, Laramie had trouble at the charity stripe and made only 10 of its 22 attempts. Gillette was eight for 12 from the free throw line. Despite all the fouls on the Lady Camels, not one player fouled out of the game.
The Lady Camels take on the South Lady Bison on Saturday at 1:30pm. You can her the game on Fox Country 100.7 and online at https://www.network1sports.com/station/kgwy.
