Gillette, Wyo.--The Gillette Camels (17-2, 7-0) proved that they deserve the number one ranking in Wyoming 4A basketball by defeating the #2 Laramie Plainsmen (15-4, 5-2), 68-49 Saturday afternoon.
The first quarter of the game was what any basketball fan would want to see between the top two teams. There were three ties and three lead changes to start the game. The Camels took the final lead change of the game at 8-6, but in the first quarter, the Plainsmen stayed right on their tails. It was 18-14 going into the start of the second quarter.
In the second quarter, the Plainsmen made sure the Camels were still within striking distance. The Camels scored 12 points in the second quarter, the Plainsmen sank nine. Laramie went to the line three times in the second period. Sam Feldman was one for two, but Sam Hainline went cold and missed all of three of his free throw attempts. The Camels had a 30-23 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Camels offense started to heat up offensively. Three Camels made a three-pointer, part of the seven baskets made from the field in the quarter.
