Another year, another championship for the Gillette Camel wrestlers as they won the 4A State Title for the 11th straight year and 14th time overall.
The Camels went into Casper and dominated their opponents as they racked up 322.5 team points, outdistancing 2nd place Cheyenne East by 93.5 points. Gillette brought home 8 individual titles and had 17 wrestlers place in the top 6.
At 145 lbs Dani Fischer accomplished something only 13 other high school wrestlers in Wyoming have ever done and that's win 4 individual state championships. Fischer put the cap on an outstanding high school career by pinning Cheyenne East's Hayes Stone in the finals.
Lukas Poloncic at 160 lbs earned his 3rd individual title. Freshmen Trent Olson at 106 lbs and Taylor Jeffries at 113 each won their 1st state titles. At 138 lbs Alex Lacasse had to go above and beyond in his 3-2 2OT win in the finals over Tannar Galey from Kelly Walsh High School. Taylor Barbour at 285 lbs also needed 2OT to win a state title 3-2. Also earning titles for the Camels were Jordan Fischer at 152 lbs and Taylor Bigelow at 170 lbs.
Also placing for the Camels in the top 6 were Evan Smith and Kris Miller in 2nd place, Carson Mock and Brendan MacKearney ended up in 3rd, Devon Mauch, Austin Zigray and Haydn Rawlings earned 4th place finishes while Brady Vogel was 5th and Jace Jacob 6th.
