GILLETTE, Wyo.--The Gillette College Pronghorns led by as many as 30 points in Thursday night's contest against Colo. Northwestern. However, it was only a 97-83 final in favor of the Pronghorns.
After a couple early lead changes, Gillette College put its foot down on the accelerator in the first half. Lorenzo Bonham had 13 points in the first half, with Renard Suggs and Muhammad Ahmed right behind him. Suggs sank 10 and Ahmed 9 points, accounting for 32 of Gillette College's 47 points in the half. The Pronghorns led by 21 at halftime.
Colorado Northwestern made only eight two-pointers in the first half and had a 25.8 total field goal percentage. The Spartans 10 out of 15 free throws helped them out in the first half.
At the start of the second half, Gillette College continued where they left off. The Pronghorns quickly led by thirty points at 65-35 as it seemed Head Coach Shawn Neary would be able to let the starters sit for the last quarter of the game and give his bench players some substantial minutes.
Terrylee Wedgeworth of Colorado Northwestern spoiled that thought. Wedgeworth, who had 2 points in the first half, found his mojo in the second stanza. He rattled off 21 points, 12 of them from beyond the arc. Leonard Hurst of the Spartans sank 10 more points to cut it as close as 93-83 with a couple minutes to go in the game.
Gillette College was able to quell the scoring burst by the Spartans and come away with its third victory on the season. Five Pronghorns finished with double digits in the contest.
The Pronghorns will host Colorado Christian University's JV team on Friday night. The game is set to start at 7:30pm and you can hear it on 93.3 The Legend and online at https://www.network1sports.com/station/kled.
