Both Pronghorn basketball teams were victorious on Friday. The men (8-2) took care of the Rocky Mountain College JV squad, 109-67, at the South Campus. The women (8-2) bounced back after the 72-60 loss on Wednesday to Salt Lake Community College with a 107-98 victory over Utah State-Eastern in Ephraim, UT.
The Rocky Mountain Bears tried to hang with Gillette College and did for most of the first half. There were nine lead changes and three ties in the period. However, the Pronghorns were able to pull away from Rocky Mountain in the last minutes of the first half. It was 44-31 at halftime.
In the second half, Gillette College ran away with the game. Six players finished with double digits and Steven Daho-Mondzo had a double-double with 10 boards and 13 points. Dwight Anderson led the Pronghorns and all players for that matter, with 21 points.
Gillette College out rebounded Rocky Mountain 59-24. Also impressive was the lack of free throw shooting by Rocky Mountain College. The Pronghorns only sent two players to the line. Both players had a free throw attempt apiece; both missed. Gillette College was 68.6 percent from the line, going 24 for 35 on the night.
The Pronghorn Men play the SoCo Kings, an all-star team from Denver, Saturday night at 5pm from the South Campus.
The Pronghorn women defeated Utah State-eastern off a strong game by Alicia Carline, who sank 37 points in the game. Bridget Cargal went six for seven beyond the arc with a total of 20 points on the day. Chelsie Pitt also finished with 19 points.
The Pronghorn women will play Snow College in Ephraim at 4pm.
