GILLETTE, Wyo.--Gillette College and Sheridan College came into Saturday night's contest at the South Campus with two losses on the season and 1-0 in Region IX play. However, the Pronghorn men (11-2, 2-0) had no trouble taking down the Generals (12-3, 1-1) in a 113-88 victory.
Sheridan College took a 5-4 lead early and held onto it until Gillette College tied it up at 15-15. Renard Suggs sank a three-pointer to give the Pronghorns an 18-15 advantage. Gillette College didn't relinquish the advantage from that point on.
That was the only triple in the half, but Gillette had 15 doubles in the stanza and took advantage of its opportunities from the line. The team combined for 13 free throws out of 16 attempts.
Lorenzo Bonham led Gillette College with 15 points in the first half, followed by Dwight Anderson's 13 points. Bonham and Anderson also went for a combined 8 of 9 from the line.
It was a 46-37 Gillette lead at halftime.
In the second half, Bonham continued to drive to the basket. He was able to get through the Sheridan defense and lay in buckets time and again in the contest. He finished with the game high of 34 points.
Anderson scored 10 more points in the second half with Suggs adding three more buckets outside the arc. Ten Pronghorns put points on the board to spread the wealth and minutes in the game.
Gillette College will play the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology for a second time this season on Monday at the South Campus. The game is set to start at 7:30pm.
