It wasn't very pretty, but the #15 Gillette College Pronghorn women (10-1) came away with a 68-58 victory Thursday night over Head Coach Natalie Visger, a Campbell County High School alum, and her Snow College Badgers (3-3) at the South Campus.
It was close early in the first half with an 8-8 tie, but the Pronghorns would go on a 22-4 run. It looked as if Gillette College would easily cruise in the first half. That didn't turn out to be the case, as Snow College started to warm up with a 30-12 score, in favor of the Pronghorns. The Badgers finished the first half with a 24-8 scoring burst of their own, as they tied the game at 36 points apiece with 31 seconds to go in the first stanza. The Pronghorns ended up taking a 38-36 lead at halftime.
In the second half, fans saw a much tighter contest between the two squads. Other than a couple ties to start the second half, the Pronghorns led throughout. Still, there weren't any healthy leads for Gillette College. It was the Pronghorns ability to make some treys down the stretch and sink more two pointers than the Badgers that gave Gillette College the win. However, the Badgers perfection from the free throw line in the second half-10-10- is what kept the Pronghorns and their fans on their toes throughout the game.
It was a great night for Chelsie Pitt, as she led all players with 23 points. She was 5-8 from beyond the arc and made all six of her free throws. Jordi Willden led the Badgers with 20 points.
The Pronghorns and Badgers will play each other again on Saturday at 5pm at the South Campus. First, Gillette College will take on Eastern Wyoming College Friday night at the South Campus at 7pm. Both games can be heard on 93.3 The Legend and online at https://www.network1sports.com/station/kled.
