Lots of things can happen in the span of a couple of days for a basketball team. That was the case for #15 Gillette College women (12-1), as they were down three players in their second game against the Snow College Badgers (4-4) in three days. With some big help from Halli Stocklin and others off the bench, the Pronghorns came away victorious Saturday night, 65-51, from the South Campus.
The Pronghorns took the hardwood Saturday night without Matty Jolovich, Alicia Carline and Chelsey Mudgett due to injuries. Jolovich was out with an ankle injury, Carline was out due to a concussion from Friday night and Mudgett didn’t play due to a knee injury.
Gillette College led most of the first half, until the Badgers took a three-point lead with a minute to go. It was 30-27, in favor of the Badgers at halftime. The Pronghorns had trouble from the field, as they went for a combined 9-34 for two and three-pointers in the first half.
In the second half, Stocklin stepped up for the Pronghorns off the bench, as she scored two big three-pointers in the half. She finished with 11 points, nine better than her two-points-per-game average. Keke Wright had another double-double, her second game in a row, as she ended with the game-high 22 points and 11 boards. Chelsie Pitt also put up 20 points in the game.
Gillette College was also stellar from the line, as they went 25-33 in the game; the Badgers only made nine free throws.
Kiz Farrer led Snow College with 13 points.
Carline could be out for two weeks as she recovers from a concussion and Mudgett is scheduled to have an MRI on her knee sometime next week. Jolovich will be out until her ankle is back to playing strength.
As for the Gillette College men (6-5), they fell to the Midwest Elite All Stars, 88-69, Saturday afternoon at Sheridan College.
Both the Gillette College teams will play Dawson Community College at the South Campus on Saturday, Dec. 8th. The women play at 5:30pm, the men at 7:30pm. You can hear both games on 93.3 The Legend and online at https://www.network1sports.com/station/kled.
