They didn't get their first lead until early in the second half, but after a couple lead changes from that point, the Gillette College Pronghorn men's team ended a three-game losing streak. The Pronghorns ended that skid as they defeated the Dawson Community College Buccaneers, 65-55, at the South Campus on Saturday night.
It was not a great start to the game for Gillette College, as they could not find a way to stop Jaden Welsh from making the trey, as he had four of the Bucs' five three-pointers in the first half. After it trailed 20-10, Gillette College started to work on shedding the Dawson lead. The Pronghorns ended up only being down by four points, 28-24, at halftime.
Gillette College continued to whittle away at Dawson's lead, as the Pronghorns eventually took their first lead at 31-30. After a couple ties and lead changes, Gillette College took their final spot in front at 45-43, midway through the half. Jayden Walsh had a perfect night from the free throw line, as he went seven for seven, all in the second half. Walsh's effort from the line and the team's success with two-pointers in the second stanza, kept Dawson in Gillette's rear view mirror.
In the pregame show, Head Coach Shawn Neary talked about the amount of turnovers the Pronghorns committed in previous games had hurt them. Gillette College still had 16 in the game on Saturday night, but it was four less than Dawson Community College.
Jaden Welsh of Dawson Community College had the game-high of 18 points, all of them three-pointers. Urb Bingham led Gillette College with 15 points.
