Gillette, Wyo.--The Pronghorns (9-8, 3-3) knew it would be a tough game against a talented Central Wyoming College (14-3, 4-1) squad. Gillette College led at halftime, but it's the score at the end of the game that matters and the Pronghorns ended up falling short. The final was 64-56 from the South Campus.
It was a close first half between the two teams. The Pronghorns were a little more successful from the free throw line, as they went 12 for 18; Central Wyoming was 10 for 14 in the first half. The Pronghorns had a 34-33 lead at halftime.
In the second half, point guard Davion Pearson of the Rustlers found his sweet spot. Pearson made 12 of his game-high 16 points in the second half. He led the Rustler offense in the second half, followed by guards Armani Flannigan and Isaiah Tademy, who had 15 points each.
With a couple minutes left in the game, the Pronghorns were in it, down by five points. They tried to make a comeback, but shots were off the mark and the Rustlers were able to box out Gillette College.
The Rustlers put it out of reach for the Pronghorns when they were able to make free throws off of the fouls the Pronghorns committed to try and keep time on the clock.
Andre Marquez led the Pronghorns with 13 points in the game.
Gillette College head to Casper on Saturday to take on another tough T-bird team. Game time is set for 5:00pm.
