Gillette, Wyo.--The Gillette College Pronghorns (14-10, 8-4) were led by Dwight Anderson’s 27 points in a 74-60 win over the Western Wyoming Community College (7-18, 4-8) on Saturday night.
Anderson also tied Kash McKinney and Reece Maxwell for the most three-pointers in a game, by sinking six of them.
Gillette College and Western Wyoming were neck and neck in a few categories in the game, including rebounds, personal fouls, three-pointers, turnovers and free throws made. However, the difference-maker was total field goal percentage. The Pronghorns made 52.7 percent of their baskets; the Mustangs made 38.9 percent.
Gillette College led 38-23 at halftime.
In the second half, the Mustangs were able to cut the lead down to single digits a couple of times, thanks to Western Wyoming’s success beyond the arc, too. However, a couple of late three-pointers by Anderson and Lucas Reller helped Gillette College widen the gap. With a couple minutes left in the game, the defense of Gillette College stole a couple balls to keep the Mustangs from finishing the comeback.
Andre Marquez and Myles Henry both finished with 15 points for the Pronghorns, in addition to Anderson’s 27. Daveon Gibson led the Mustangs with 19 points.
Earlier in the evening, the #12 Pronghorn women (21-5, 8-4) couldn’t avenge the overtime loss in Rock Springs against Western Wyoming Community College (20-4, 10-2), as Gillette College lost, 76-62.
Both Pronghorn teams go on the road Wednesday to take on Little Big Horn College.
