The Gillette College rodeo team is hosting the 1st competition of the spring season this weekend.
Through the 1st 5 rodeos of the fall season the Gillette College men racked up 2,250 team points, which puts them in 2nd place behind Eastern Wyoming College who has 2,288.3 points. For the Gillette College women they are in 3rd place with 1,515 team points behind 1st place University of Wyoming with 1,745 points and 2nd place Northeastern Junior College with 1,577.5 points.
For the Gillette College men Casey Breuer is atop the standings in bareback bronc riding with 605 points, good enough for a 205 point lead over his teammate Devan Reilly who is in 2nd place. Dane Kissack, in tie-down roping, is in 2nd place with 445 points. Currently in 1st place with 530 points is James Wolf from Northeastern Junior College.
For the Gillette College women Jordan Thurston, the 2010 national champion, is in 1st place in goat tying with 470 points and her teammate Megan Belus is in 5th with 340 points. Then in barrels Kristi Steffes sits in 3rd place coming into this weekend with 460 points as Hayden Segelke from Northeastern junior College is in 1st with 565 points.
This weekend's rodeo in Gillette is the 1st of 5 spring rodeos culminating with the College national Finals Rodeo June 9-15 at the Casper Events Center.
