GILLETTE, Wyo.--The Gillette Roughriders fell to Sioux Falls, S.D. Post 307 on Friday afternoon, 8-5, but came from behind in exciting fashion to defeat the Greeley (Colo.) Gojos, 6-5.
In the first game, the Riders had a 5-3 lead going into the seventh inning-the equivalent of the ninth in the Hladky Tournament games. Post 307 was able to tie it up at 5-5 off of four base hits. Gillette went down in order in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings.
In the eighth inning, Post 307 drove in three runs off of a walk and three base hits. The Riders had one hit in the eighth and fell short in the loss.
Kadison Wass was credited with the loss and Tanner Rogen a no decision.
In the second game, The Gojos took a 4-1 lead after scoring three runs in the top of the third. They added to that lead with a run in the fourth inning.
The Riders, who have had trouble recently with leaving bases loaded and not bringing in runs, made that correction in Friday night's game. With Wass, Alex King and Drayson Hladky on the base paths, Tanner Rogen had a 2 RBI single. Hladky scored on an RBI single by Ian Durgin. The Riders scored all three runs with two outs on the board. They still left the bases loaded at the end of the inning, but made it a 5-4 game going into the seventh.
In the top of the seventh, The Gojos loaded the bases with one out, but a strikeout thrown by Wyatt Estabrook and a Wass catch at second ended the inning. The Gojos didn't score a run.
With the score still at 5-4 in favor of Greeley, Wass and Lucas Rissler hit singles to get on the base paths. With Wass on third base and Hladky pinch running for Rissler on second, Andrew Youngs hit a base hit deep enough into center field that fell just in front of the Gojos' center fielder to bring in the tying and game-winning runs.
Estabrook was credited with the win.
The Riders are now 22-23 on the season.
