GILLETTE, Wyo.--Mitch Robinson achieved a feat that is hard to come by in baseball, a no-hitter. Robinson of the Ralston Valley Mustangs did just that-his first, as the Arvada, Colo. team defeated the Riders, 7-0, on Saturday night.
Robinson had 10 strikeouts in the game and only five Roughiders made it on base by walk or a passed ball after a strikeout.
It was a scoreless game until the fourth inning. In the fourth, the Mustangs had three hits with two runners coming home to score off of Ian Durgin. It was a tough night defensively for the Riders, especially Lucas Rissler, who was charged with three errors at first base in the game. Two were in the two-run top of the fifth for the Mustangs and one in the three-run seventh.
Durgin had four strikeouts in the game, going six innings. Cody Eaton was on the mound in the seventh.
Gillette came into the game on a high point, after coming from behind to beat the Greeley Gojos, 6-5 on Friday night. They will need to have a short-term memory about the no-hitter on Saturday night, as they play two games on Sunday. The Riders play Longmont, Colo. at 2:30pm and Dickinson, N.D. at 5pm.
