Gillette Soccer Club ended it's indoor season at Rushmore Soccer Club President’s Cup over the weekend.

The Girls U10 purple team of Brady Diemling, Hannah Durgin, Shaelae Milliron, Peyton Roswadovski, Macy Schomer, Karissa Tranas and Skylar Wylie started off a little slow Saturday morning against the Rushmore Revolution Gold team as they lost 5-3 with Peyton ,Brady and Skylar each scoring 1 goal.

Their second game against the Rushmore SC Rebels ended with a win of 5-2 with Shaelea scoring 3 goals and Peyton following with 2 goals. Sunday morning they dominated the field and crushed the Pierre Crushers 4-0! Shaelae put in 2 goals and Macy and Skylar each had 1 goal which landed them in the championship against the Rushmore Revolution team. Again they dominated the game with a 7-2 win bringing home another 1st place for this great team. Macy had 3 goals, Brady and Shaelae each added 2 goals, Hannah and Peyton each added a goal to the total. What a great way to end the season girls!

The Boys U12 Rascals got out to a quick lead and never let up. There were so many highlight moments during this game.  One of them was when Zach received the ball from Isaac on a kick-in, popped the ball up, did a bicycle kick over his head towards the goal where Cole headed the ball in.  Another highlight was when Zach headed the ball into the goal directly off of another Isaac kick-in.

Then towards the end of the 2nd half, Cole put a shot on goal which bounced off of their goalie and Nate Dawg crashed the goal and put the rebound right in the back of the net.  They ended up winning the game 9-0.  Goals were scored by Cole Deimling (2), Isaac Howell (2), Zach Milliron (2), Aron Molina, Nathan “Nater” Delgrande, & Nathan “Nate Dawg” King.  Assists were made by Cole (2), Zach (2), Isaac, Tanner Smolick, & Tyler Schroyer.  Keepers for this match were Nate Dawg, Zach, Willy, & Isaac.

In their second match of the tournament, the Rascals drew a very tough RCYSL Ambush Orange. This game turned out to be a pretty physical game with fouls called on both teams. In the end, the Rascals prevailed 6-1.  Goals were scored by Zach (2), Willy, Nater, Aron, & Cole.  Assists were made by Aron, Isaac, & Cole.  Our Keepers for this game were Nate Dawg & Zach.  Each keeper made some great saves and allowed only one goal. In the semi-final game, they drew the same RCYSL Ambush Orange team they played the previous day.

One of the most exciting defense highlights came as Nater played a kick-in, which the Ambush won and drove deep into our end.  They took a shot on goal which Nate Dawg stopped but could not secure the ball.  As the ball came back out of the goalie box, the Ambush player went to chip the ball back in.  With Nate Dawg still trying to scramble to his feet, Nater had sprinted all the way back to jump up and send the Ambush shot out the side with authority saving a goal.

Then the Rascals scored three more goals to put the game out of reach and advance to the championship game.  Goals were scored by Cole (2), Zach (2), & Isaac.  Assists were made by Isaac, Nater, & Zach.  The keeper for this game was Nate Dawg.  He played spectacular during the contest.  He made great decisions & even greater saves to help the Rascals advance to the title game.

In the U12B Silver Championship, the Rascals faced the #2 seeded Monsters team from Belle Fourche.  They were a much bigger team than any other the Rascals had faced in this tournament.  The Monsters drew first blood and scored very quickly in the first half of the game. The Rascals scored before the end of the first half when Isaac took an errant pass deep into their end and blasted the ball past the goalie.  Early in the 2nd half, the Rascals tied the game up with a kick-in by Tyler that Zach redirected into the goal.  The Rascals were unable to clear the ball defensively on their end and the Monsters capitalized by scoring their 3rd goal of the game.  On one of the kick-ins, Isaac fired a hard shot at the goal resulting in one of the Monsters players actually grabbing the ball with his hands in the goalie box but the ref never saw it.  The Rascals had plenty of opportunities to score but failed to capitalize when it mattered most.

Eventually playing this aggressive style of offense, and with our players unable to get back to help on defense, lead to the Monsters scoring the game clinching goal.  Nate Dawg was constantly stopping shot after shot after shot.  Coach Rand Milliron had this to say “The Rascals played really tough but in the end the Monsters played just that much better.  It was not how we wanted the weekend to end, but there’s one thing I pride myself in teaching to these young men.  No matter if we win or lose, we do so graciously, we do not disrespect any other team or opponent, we act like we’ve been there before, and that we’ll be there again.”
