The Wright Cross Country Team travelled in their opening meet of the season at altitude on Casper Mountain at Beartrap Meadow on Friday, August 30th, 2013.
The first race of the day began at noon with the Junior High Girls. Sixth grader Jozi Edwards finished third overall amongst the big schools at a blazing 11:12. This earned her a medal. Ryleigh Burch was the next Panther motoring in at 15:14. Heidi Thompson was next finishing hard at 15:44. Tea Williams completed the 1.5 mile course in 17:07.
The Junior High Boys toed the line next. First for the Panthers was Hunter Ferguson. He had a great kick at the end to finish at 11:34. Right behind him was KC Krieter at 11:44. Packing it up was Ian Nemec at 13:17, Jayden Vasquez at 13:27 and Roland Schofield at 13:56. Eighth grader Dalten Ammon, who had run this course two years ago, clocked a 14:45. Just seconds behind at 14:52 was Dane Nemec. Logan Kanatzar ran a 15:40 and rounding out the JH Boys was Wyatt Real at 20:27. The boys placed 6th in team scoring.
In the Junior Varsity Girls’ race, Kylie Murphy led the Panthers running the 2-loop 5 Kilometer course in 26:27. New recruit Abby Sessions wasn’t intimidated by her first meet breaking her goal of sub 30 minutes crossed the line in 29:57. Brooke Thayne ran a 33:18. Seniors Lori Souza, at 40:10 and Holly Real at 40:20 gave it their all. Holly took four minutes off her previous time on this course two years ago. The girls placed 6th place.
Donnie Bissey opened his season well with a 22:59. Trey Nemec dropped his initial time set in practice the first week by an unheard of five minutes! He entered the chute in 23:52. Aaron Kanatzar ran a smooth and steady 28:10.

Next week the Panthers travel to Sheridan on Saturday, September 7th for preparation for the State Meet to be held there the end of October. The first race will begin at 10am.
