WRIGHT, Wyo.-- The Wright Panthers' denfense did its best to keep the Burns running game at bay. For the most part, the defense was successful, but numerous illegal procedure penalties on the Wright offense throughout the game stifled the team's offensive drives. The Panthers (0-2) lost, 20-6 to Burns (2-0).
Wyatt Berg, the star running back for the Burns Broncs was held to 151 yards on 25 carries. Other than a 56-yard run late in the game, Berg was held to a majority of single-digit carries. Berg had 227 yards against Southeast the week before.
The Wright defense was able to get to Burns quarterback Paden Wilson a couple of times. The Panthers recovered two fumbles that Wilson coughed up. Kodi French and Daniel Magana went untouched to bring down Wilson for a 21-yard sack late in the game.
It was 7-6 in favor of Burns until halfway through the 4th quarter. Late in the game, Wright quarterback Michael Yeradi injured his right collarbone and left the game. French took over for Yeradi and led the Panthers into the redzone. However, Burns kept Wright out of the endzone and Magana missed a 24-yard field goal attempt.
The Broncs scored two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter. They were able to convert an interception and fumble into those points.
The Wright Panthers will host Wheatland on Friday. It will also be Wright's homecoming. You can hear the game on 101.5 The Drive and online at https://www.network1sports.com/station/kddv. The Big D in Wright Pregame Show will start at 6:45pm.
