DAYTON, Wyo.--The Wright Panthers (0-6) had one of their best drives of the season to start the game against the Tongue River Eagles (2-4) on Friday afternoon, but couldn’t get the win in a 14-6 loss.
Alex Ferguson had a 57-yard return on the opening kickoff to start the Panthers on the Tongue River 32-yard line. Kodi French was able to find Brandon Collen in the back right corner of the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown reception. The extra point was no good, but the Panthers took an early 6-0 lead.
The Eagles would respond with a 20-yard run by Lane Dockery for the touchdown. The p.a.t. was good as well, giving Tongue River a 7-6 lead.
On the Panthers second offensive drive, Matt Yellowtail, who took it to the Wright 39-yard line, picked off French. Tongue River wasted no time to score its second and final touchdown of the game. Yellowtail was able to connect with Chase Linhart for 25 yards. The Eagles would lead 14-6 after the successful extra point.
That would be all the scoring in the game. The Panthers had opportunities to get back into the end zone. One drive of note was a drive where Wright started at its own 32 and looked promising. However, it would fizzle out with a turnover-on-downs at the Tongue River 9-yard line. Wylee Knudsen was able to pick off Yellowtail late in the game, but the Wright offense couldn’t turn it into points on the scoreboard.
Wright is back home for Senior Night against Glenrock on Friday with kickoff set for 7pm. You can hear the game on 101.5 The Drive and online at https://www.network1sports.com/station/kddv. The Big D in Wright Pregame Show is set to start at 6:45pm.
