CUSTER, SD – The Black Hills National Forest will begin preparing the Pactola Work Center for sale through a competitive on-line bid during the summer of 2014. Recently a decision was made to sell the twenty acre parcel, which includes the buildings and mineral rights, through a competitive sale. The Pactola Work Center is located along Hwy 44, approximately 2 1/3 miles east of the intersection of Hwy 44 and Hwy 385. The work center was previously used to house seasonal employees. The shop facilities were used to support work projects on the former Pactola Ranger District (now part of the Mystic Ranger District) on the Black Hills National Forest. Structures on the site, which consist of a large shop, three summer cabins, well house, metal pole barn, and lean-to, are currently vacant. The Decision Memo is available on request (hardcopy or electronic) from the Black Hills National Forest Supervisors Office, 1019 N. 5th Street, Custer, SD, phone (605) 673-9238. The documents are available on Black Hills National Forest web site at http://www.fs.usda.gov/projects/blackhills/landmanagement/projects under “Pactola Work Center.” The Facility Master Plan for the Black Hills National Forest, approved on September 29, 2002, identified the need to convey excess facilities, including the Pactola Work Center. Proceeds can be used for construction or maintenance of other facilities on the Black Hills National Forest. For further information regarding this project, contact Cindy Hockelberg at 605-673-9238.
