Dogies running game brings down Wright

The Newcastle Dogies (2-3) ran the ball at will in Monday night's game against the Wright Panthers (0-5). Newcastle scored all 41 of its points in the first half with the final being 41-16.

The Dogies offense was able to run the ball all over the small Wright defensive line. The Wildcat formation was very effective in that process. There were only a handful of passing attempts by the Dogies with two of them being receptions for touchdowns.

Running back Dillon Ehlers and quarterback Merritt Crabtree led the Dogie offense with scoring on all but one offensive drive by the starters. The lone drive that they didn't score on was cut short by Kodi French of Wright. French recovered a fumble that was coughed up in the backfield.

In the second half, Daniel Magana stood out on offense for the Panthers. With Newcastle's second-stringers in the game, Magana, on a trick play, threw a 47-yard pass to Ronnie Salas who took it into the end zone. On another Stormi Roy converted the two-point conversion after the touchdown.

On a later drive in the second half, Magana was able to go off the right tackle spot for a 48-yard run to the Dogie 10 yard line. From there, the Panthers were able to get into the end zone a couple plays later as French ran it in from two yards. Magana scored the two-point conversion.

The Panthers only have a couple days before taking on Tongue River on Friday. The game time is set for 2pm in Dayton. You can hear the game on 101.5 The Drive and online at https://www.network1sports.com/station/kddv. The Big D in Wright pregame show starts at 1:45pm.
