The Gillette Boys Soccer team claimed the top spot, in Class 4A East Regionals, with a 2-0 shoot out win over top-seeded Laramie in Saturday’s championship game,
Tyler Greener scored the first goal in the shoot out, and then Blaine Christenson sealed it, with the second goal, as the Camels advance to the State Tournament, in Rock Springs, as the top seed coming out of the East.
The Camels will face Kelly Walsh, Thursday afternoon at 3:30, in the opening round. The Trojans are the fourth-seed coming out of the West.
Gillette advanced to the regional final with a 1-0 win over Cheyenne Central, Friday evening. Camdin Hinkel scored the game’s only goal, on a penalty kick, in the 43rd minute of the game.
The Gillette Girls advanced to Saturday’s Class 4A East Regionals Final with a 2-0 win over top-seeded Laramie, Friday evening.
Taylor Wilde and Emma Juriewicz scored goals for the Camels, who then went on to face Cheyenne East in Saturday’s final.
The Thunderbirds outshot Gillette, 12-3, and came away with a 5-0 win.
With the loss, the Camels go into this week’s State Tournament, as the second-seed out of the East. They’ll face Rock Springs, this year’s State Tournament host, Thursday at 11 a.m.
