City of Gillette's revised Solid Waste schedule goes into effect August 4th

Press Release - Attention all Solid Waste, Recycling, and Yard Waste Customers:

The City of Gillette's Solid Waste Division releases the revised Solid Waste schedule that goes into effect August 4, 2014 and will improve the efficiency of the City's trash, recycling and yard waste curbside programs.

But first, some background...

The solid waste (trash) pick up days have not changed in many, many years, and as new subdivisions were added, the Solid Waste Division added those subdivisions to the day of the week that had the lightest schedule - which was easy to schedule, but not necessarily the most effective mechanism to determine when the best day a subdivision's trash, recycling and yard waste should get picked up.

This has led to an unbalanced schedule (see the picture labeled "Current Solid Waste Route Map" to get an idea) with some days having substantially more customers than others days, and routes that are scattered from heck to breakfast. CRSW 5.29.14

Thanks to Public Works leadership, Solid Waste staff, and the amazing geeks in our G.I.S. Division who analyzed the locations of current and potential future customers due to population increase, staff has come up with an improved routing map (see the picture below) and you can easily see the efficiencies that will be gained.

However, this may mean a change in your trash pick up day, and the City of Gillette asks for your patience during this transition.

KEEP IN MIND, these changes will not go into effect until Monday, August 4th. So until then, continue to put out your trash, recycling, and yard waste the same as you always have.

ALSO, this does not mean your solid waste rates are going up. Council reviews rates each year in the Spring and Solid Waste rates were not increased this year.
