The Summer of Hope Walk/Run event will take place on June 14th. The 5K event will take place at the Gillette Fishing Lake with registration being at 8:00 a.m.
“The Summer of Hope is a program that was created to help waiting older orphans find forever families. We bring children from around the world to stay with host families for four weeks during the summer and those families either hosting them in hopes to adopt them or they are hosting them just to advocate for them. Through bringing them here for the four weeks they typically find a family even if it is not the host family.” --- Haley Gray, local Summer of Hope coordinator
The Father’s Day weekend fundraiser event will be themed “Walk for the Fatherless”.
“It’s a fundraiser to raise funds to bring these children here. It costs a lot of money to bring the children here.” --- Gray
The registration fee will be $30.00 which includes a T-Shirt. The event will also include games, food and a presentation on Summer of Hope. And along the walk will be photos of the children who hope to find a new home.
“So this is just a way to advocate for those older kids that nobodies coming for and that people can still see the value inside of them when they are placed in front of them.” --- Gray
