State officials to consider Campbell County grant Thursday

The State Loan and Investment Board will consider a $1.5 million grant to Campbell County during its 8 a.m. meeting on Thursday in Room 1699 of the Herschler Building.

The money would be used to build a 4,000 square-foot facility in Gillette for researching new ways to turn raw coal into commercial products.

The State Loan and Investment Board, comprising Wyoming’s five statewide elected officials, will consider the project during their June 15 meeting in Cheyenne.

BUSINESS READY COMMUNITY (BRC) GRANT APPLICATIONS 

Business Council staff review each application, conduct site visits, or conference calls in the case of planning grants, and make presentations to a board subcommittee before making final recommendations to the full board.

About the Program: The Wyoming Business Council administers the Business Ready Community grant and loan program, which provides financing for publicly-owned infrastructure that serves the needs of businesses and promotes economic development within Wyoming communities.

The Business Council board is required by statute to forward BRC grant and loan recommendations to the State Loan and Investment Board (SLIB) for final approval. The SLIB is comprised of the five statewide elected officials: the governor, secretary of state, state auditor, state treasurer and state superintendent of public instruction.

The SLIB will make final decisions on the BRC project request at its 8 a.m. meeting on June 15 in Cheyenne.

Community Readiness

• Campbell County requests a $1,500,000 grant for a 4,000 square-foot steel lab and office building and associated infrastructure for the new Advanced Carbon Products Innovation Center facility. The innovation center will provide space and a steady supply of raw product to drive research and value-added manufacturing of Wyoming raw minerals. This project is expected to create 10 to 20 direct jobs in the next five years. (Board recommends full funding of the project as requested.)
