KELLY CLARKSON SINGING THE DANCE BROUGHT GARTH BROOKS TO TEARS

Written by on June 14, 2021

Kelly Clarkson singing The Dance demonstrates why she won American Idol and shows that she has kept getting better ever since.  While country music icon Garth Brooks and his wife Trisha Yearwood watched, Kennedy Center Honoree, Kelly Clarkson moved everybody in the audience with her powerful performance of Garth Brooks’ classic “The Dance”,

The 43rd annual Honors celebrated the artistic accomplishments of multi-disciplinary artist, choreographer, and actress Debbie Allen; singer-songwriter and activist Joan Baez; country singer-songwriter Garth Brooks; violinist Midori; and actor Dick Van Dyke.  The 2020 Kennedy Center Honors (which traditionally is held in early December each year) was postponed until May 2021 due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Kelly performed live at the 43rd Honors ceremony and managed to bring Garth Brooks to tears with her amazing performance.

Kelly Clarkson singing The Dance might just become one of the most powerful performances of 2021. The original of “The Dance” was the tenth and final track from Garth’s self-titled debut album and was released as the album’s fourth and final single in April of 1990.  The Dance reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Country songs chart and stayed at the top for three consecutive weeks.

“The Dance” song was written by Tony Arata and became one of Garth’s favorite songs of all time and is considered by many to be his signature song.

The Dance Lyrics

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared ‘neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you’d ever say goodbye
And now I’m glad I didn’t know
The way it all would end, the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I’d have had to miss the dance
Holding you, I held everything
For a moment wasn’t I the king
If I’d only known how the king would fall
Hey, who’s to say, you know I might have changed it all
And now I’m glad I didn’t know
The way it all would end, the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I’d have had to miss the dance
If our lives are better left to chance
Oh, our lives are better left to chance
Oh, our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I’d have had to miss the dance

Garth credits “The Dance” and “Friends in Low Places” with enabling his amazing country music career.  Remember to “share” Kelly Clarkson singing The Dance with other Country Music fans!
